September 10 - September 17

Thanks to all of you came to parent orientation night. I know that it was very quick but I also hope that it was informative. If you have any  questions about what was discussed, please feel free to contact me. If you were unable to attend and have any questions, please feel free to contact me. On Wednesday of this week, I will have a substitute.  As we start the third week of school, we are starting to get into our regular routine. Here is what is happening this week in our classroom:

Reading : Last week began looking at the inner converstations we have when we are reading. We wil continue with that as well as  looking  at when our comprehension breaks down and what strategies we can use. We will also look at stopping and reacting to what we have read and on Friday, we will practice a readers response. Students will be practicing these skills with their good fit books.

Writing : Last week we spent time generating ideas to write about. This week we will pick a topic to write about and begin practicing ways to organize our story before we begin writing it. Students will be required to take a personal experience story through the writing process for a grade.

Science :  This week, we will look at an experiement with the tools that we will be using in third grade. Students will conduct and investigation with gummy bears.

Social Studies :For a couple of days, we will continue to review the life skills of cooperation and caring. Towards the end of the week, we will look at careers in the field of science.

Math : We wil continue to do daily problem solving. We will also be  looking at place value in the 10,000 and the 100,000 place. Studnets will also compare numbers up to the 100,000 place.
