It has been a busy week. It seems that at this time of the year things start to move so fast and we have so much to cover. We took a district reading benchmark on Wednesday. After the test we discussed the importance of taking your time. I have told them that they should read each story twice once for enjoyment and the second time with a focus for comprehension. Even with these suggestions, I still had students turn the test in after approximately 30 minutes. This next week on Thursday, we will be taking the STAAR Ready Math test . This is a practice test for the STAAR test the students will take in April. It is very important the students have had a good nights sleep as well as a good breakfast that day. They should also plan on bringing a snack that day as our lunch time will be moved back in order to accomodate the 4 hour time limit. Please talk to your child about the importance of taking their time and reviewing their work.
In reading this week, we looked at how to use context clues to determine menaing of unknown words. I writing, we selected our topics for our perusasive essays. The two topics that were voted on are : Should students have a field trip every month? Should kids be allowed to vote? Next week, studnets will write their essay on one of the above topics and explain why they are for or against it. . In math, we began our introduction to fractions by exploring fraction tiles and the names given to the units. In science, we begain our investigation into what natural resources we have on Earth .
During this next week, we wil be looking at media literacy in reading. We will look at how commercials affect us and they ways in which they are so effective . We will also discuss e - mails, web based articles. In math, we will continue our look at fractions and equal shares.
