February 20- February 24

I hope that all of you enjoyed a three day weekend if you were lucky enough  to have one.  This week on Wednesday, we will be taking a district reading benchmark in the morning . Next week on Thursday, we will be taking a STAAR  ready math test. For the STAAR ready, it will be treated just like the real test. Students will have 4 hours to complete the test.  Restroom breaks and snack breaks count in the 4 hour time period. For that day, our lunch will be at a different time so that the 4 hour time limit will be over before we go to lunch.  We have talked briefly about the practice test and will discuss again as we get closer to the test day.

Thanks so much to all of you that sent in snacks or other supplies for the party  and for those that were able to attend . We had more than enough food for everyone.  Things that I could use as snacks, I saved for the kids. I also gave some of the leftovers to our custodial staff for their hard work. They always appreciate it.

The students did a great job the past couple of weeks writing, revising, editing and publishing their personal narratives. They also wrote about George Washington or Abraham Lincoln and did a nice job. I think that of the students enjoyed creating and painting their land form maps.  We have another busy week this week. Below find the highlights.

Math : Introduction of fractions
Reading - Using Context Clues to determine unknown words
Science : Natural Resources
Social Studies - Black History
Writing - persuasive writing .

Students will have reading homework on Tuesday and Thursday  and Math homework on Wednesday. Spelling homework will be due Friday. Students also need to continue to read 30 minutes per night.
