What has been happening in our classroom.

During this past week, we looked at life in the mountains and Skype with Ms. Derrington's mother as she hiked through the mountains of Colorado. In science, we discussed science lab safety rules and  investigated the science lab for safety problems. In math we continued to look at place value to the hundred thousands place and to order and compare numbers. In reading we looked discussed "leaving tracks" as we read as well as continue to establish procedures for reading time. In writing,we looked at ways to generate ideas for writing.  We also had acceptable use training for the computers and our library orientation.
During this next week we will be exploring deserts and making adobe bricks out of clay. In science, we will be investigating matter. In math we will look at money and take an assessment on place value and money. In reading we will continue to work on reading comprehension strategies and in writing we will be learning to tell our story across our hand and to make a time line for our story.
This week we will also be starting a behavior chart. Students will begin each day with 5 sticks. Students will pull sticks for disrespect, talking, missing homework, failure to get agenda signed and distracting others. I am hopeful that this will curb some of the talking we have going on in class. If a student pulls a stick, they will walk a lap around the blacktop during recess. Each Thursday, I will send home a form indicating if your child had to pull any sticks for the week and for what.
Looking forward to another great week.
