Great First Week
We had a great first week of school. I have enjoyed getting to know each of your children. We have spent most of the first week getting to know each other and setting the expectations for the classroom. As we begin the second week, your child will be coming home each day with an agenda and homework folder. In the agenda, your child needs to write the name of the book they read that evening and you will need to initial. This week, they will have math homework on Monday and Wednesday ( unless in TAG math and they will get whatever Ms. Wilson assigns) . In addition, they will receive spelling words on Monday and the homework will be due on Friday. In math, our focus this week will be on place value to the hundred thousands place and writing numbers in standard, expanded and written form, In social studies, we are beginning our unit on geography. In science we will begin setting up our science notebooks and looking at science lab safety as well as the scientific process. In reading, we will begin setting up for Daily 5 in our room as well as looking at ways to monitor our comprehension. In writing, we will look at where our ideas for writing come from and how we can take those ideas through the writing process. The focus for spelling this week will be compound words and for the TAG Language Arts students it will be an Greek and Latin roots. We will have library orientation on Tuesday and after that students will be able to check out books. Our library day will be Tuesday each week. Don' forget that parent orientation in Tuesday August 30th at 6pm . Hope all of you have a great week.
